a terrible, horrible, no good very bad fourteen hours
whines, karma, the curse of the “middle” class
In list form, for (ha) minimal whining:

- Sick.
- Have upwards of 50 mosquito bites.
- Flight (Charlotte, NC to New York, NY) delayed due to bad weather; sit on runway in plane for two hours.
- Instead of being rerouted from La Guardia, which closes for four hours each night, flight is simply cancelled
- US Airways “not responsible for passenger accommodations,” spend 62$ at Ramada Inn for 4 hours sleep as am not allowed to stay in the airport overnight.
- Phone breaks.
- Arrive in New York; cab ride from LGA to Clinton Hill home takes ~40 minutes, including the first 4 during which cabbie yells at dispatcher, trying to get her to explain to him how to get to Clinton Hill, and final 2 during which cabbie yells at me for not tipping him more than 10% (I’m usually nicer, I swear).
- Arrive home to find hefty bill previously thought resolved actually totally unresolved
- and glass souvenir completely shattered in luggage, beyond repair
- and no one home to complain to.

In conclusion: I urge friends and readers (and even enemies) not to fly US Airways, at least not into New York.
Also: I am committed to doing some good deeds in the next few days to make up for what appears to be absolutely terrible karma on my part. If you need a good deed done, please e-mail me. I would be happy to assist. I’m nice, I swear!
Granted, this was the fourteen hours following a fantastic nine day vacation with my fantastic family in the Caribbean, which I will relive for you in words and pictures over the coming days. I feel it is best to work backwards like this, so I do not relive awful fourteen hours in a few days and feel bad all over again.
Some thoughts: this is repentance for great vacation? Or larger issue: generally charmed life, in comparison to world population? I mean, in times of trouble at least I have the dear, dear internet (TGFTI).
So, stay tuned. I know I’ve said I’ll be updating more frequently in the past and it’s turned out to be quite a bald-faced lie, but it’s true this time. Really, I wouldn’t lie – I don’t need that kind of karma.
